Golden Angel of the Sunflowers

Golden Angel of the Sunflowers  11" x 14"  $235.00

Few people have seen their angel, but angels, big and small are always about protection. They seriously are about God's work.  They constantly praise God.  Their desire is not for anything but God, love, giving knowledge, attending to our joys and sorrows, and forever knowing our needs.  As far as I know angels are assigned by God and do not have children of their own.  They must be beautiful, right?

Bread for the World

14" x 19"    watercolor   $450.00 unframed   $575.00 framed

This adorable child lives in Kenya and  is helping the family by selling bread.  I was given permission to use a photo by a pastor in Kenya, and I changed the story by adding the bread, the baskets, and the huts.  The beautiful intelligent face and gentle eyes would have been enough, but the clothing is also so lovely and decorative.  I was immediately hooked.  Thank you Karen Michaelle and Paul Odari.  10% of the sale will go to Upendo children's home.

1940 Posing For the New Camera

15" x15"  watercolor unframed   $250.00

I found this old black and white photo of my aunt and cousin. It is so lovely.I wondered what color the clothing was and what the hair looked like. The photo was rather dark so I lightened it up in my mind and had a lot of fun creating an old fashioned look. I am enamored with babies and moms. Dads too. I have never figured out why, but they are my utmost favorite.

Cotemplative Hand Study

11" x 14"  watercolor   300# Arches paper unframed  $250.00

This is a painting of a beautiful dancer in a quiet moment, working out a hand movement for her ballet.
I am showing the development of my watercolor so that you can see how layers and layers of color are applied to get the nearly finished product.  Beginning with the bottom photo, I splattered masking after the first layer.  It is important to see that a window of sorts was applied after the first layer.  I liked it but did not want the painting to be too pastel, so subsequent layers of opposite colors were applied in the background to give a feeling of opulence.  Lastly I applied some spots a la Ted Nuttall.  Which layer do you prefer?
I always think the first layer is magical.

Strumming in the Straw

  15" x 22"  watercolor  $750.00

My nephew sings Christian songs, plays guitar and enjoys nature.
The beautiful light streaming in from the door and shafted across his shoulder, arm, and guitar are spiritual in nature.  God's light is powerful, changing shapes, and strengthening and enlightening  our spirits.  Music is reflected in the straw shapes.

The Dreamer

15 x 11   watercolor    $95.00

What is she thinking about?  The wind is sculpting her hair, tangling it and bringing new scent to her nostrils while she muses about the little chipmunks she viewed today. She is like a chipmunk she thinks.  She is swift, she is curious, has a Mona Lisa smile, and sometimes she is afraid to come out of her room.  But not today.  Do you know why?

The Traveler

15" x 11"  watercolor   $125.00

Even in the arid and scorched Arizona heat, this traveler remained cool, calm and collected.  Perhaps it was the sunglasses, or the cool blue shirt or the red hat with beads.

The Sin of the Douoghnut

ink drawing on tile    6" x 6"   $35.00

She grabbed  the doughnut from the tree and quickly sprinted away.  The old serpent had coerced her again, convincing her that if the doughnut came from a tree it had no calories whatsoever.  She did not believe him, but she wanted to because her will power was absolutely gone.

Easter Lilies 2015

7" x 5"  watercolor    $$75.00

Look what the Easter Bunny brought to me!  It has bloomed and brought me joy all week long.
Amazing what a few soft white petals, spiky leaves and perky stamens can do for for our spirits.  Like a ballerina's skirts freshly pressed, these petals are crisp and satiny and a reminder of the purity of a baby's beating heart and soft breath.

A Strong Voice

14" x 14"  watercolor    $175.00

She has a strong Colorado voice that supports others. When you grow up with nothing, you learn to speak up for yourself, for your brothers and sisters and friends.  You learn early to trust your Savior. and sing ind a deep alto voice that glorifies Him.  She is a confident feminine leader and enjoys reading and learning with a determination surpassing her youth.  She loves to jump in the pool and play baseball and never worries about trying to keep up with fashion or the latest  new toy.  She knows that someday if she continues to work hard she will have all that she needs and more.  She is a responsible friend and you can lean on her staunch shoulders in rough times.

Waterfall Splash

12" x 12"     oil on canvas   $200.00

A moment in time, when all of nature's glory is splashing at once. Solid rock, azure water, and green foliage.  Putting toes into that icy water on a sun warmed day, you wonder why the fish are so abundant.  I can barely move when I am cold, running for a jacket and shivering.  Clever fish.

Bucket Full of Sunshine

11" x 14"   watercolor  SOLD

Boldly taking over the plant filled bucket with a contented smile, "Sunshine" feels safe and warm .  She thinks she is hiding, yet really doesn't give a hoot if you don't like it.
Who am I to confuse the issue?

Refreshing, Sparkling Waterfall

18" x 18"    watercolor      $10000.00 framed and matted

I have entered 3 waterfalls into the PPWS international Watermedia today.
They are all from the Rocky Mountains from photos I have taken and converted into paintings .  Yet when I look at the paintings from children's imaginations, I feel stilted and uncreative.  My work comes from seeing something and more or less copying it.  Children's work is freeing and delightful, colorful and imaginative.Their work comes totally from the heart.  Can I attain to that?  I sure hope so.  Hmmm....think like a child, think like a child.

Portrait of Bean the Chihuahua

12" x14"   watercolor    $200.00

Bean is a very loved tiny chihuahua and he knows it. He sleeps a lot, snuggling comfortably into big blankets and pillows.  He can also be found stealing chewy bones from his best friend, Bailey. His bark sounds ferocious, but watch him tremble when he is afraid.

Mighty Max

10" x 14"  watercolor   $225.00  unframed

Max was given a big name for his future life, but he currently looks very innocent and lightly worried.  It must be time to eat.  He doesn't know he has that cuteness factor, but he definitely makes me smile with all that touchable fur and whiskers.  Thanks goodness for animals in our lives.

Irish Wispy

8" x 10"  watercolor  $120.00  unframed

This small but exquisite painting was begun as a demo in one of my Wednesday morning classes and finished later.
When painting from a photo, you have to imagine the roundness of that head.  This little one has wispy hair that attracted me to paint her, using some masking and some negative space to achieve this look.  The best thing about working from a photo is that it doesn't move, and you can still be as creative with it as you wish.

Gethsemene

22" x 28"  oil    SOLD    I do take commissions

A friend requested a painting in memory of her mother. We researched many old world paintings and finally decided on a painting by Carl Bloch (circa 1865.)  The tenderness of this angel comforting Christ in the garden where he sweat blood, touched our hearts so much.  The original painting was much larger with a large tree and dark sky and a base.  But we preferred the close up because of its power to pull you in.  It is finished and will be placed in a church.
I am so honored and loved copying this extraordinary beautiful subject.
contact me for commissions.  I require a Pay Pal deposit and lots of conversation before we even begin .
