Suspended Whites

12.5" x 10"  watercolor    $100.00

In the spring along the untended hillsides are these lovely floaty poppies growing on spikey stems and it is almost time.  I think in a couple of weeks we will be spying them.  I can hardly contain myself.  They are one thing the deer do not prefer.  Everything else is already being slurped up as the greeens pop through the ground.
Oops I shouldn't be complaining.

Bluebird Breakfast

10" x 9"  watercolor  $100.00
Breakfast outdoors is for the birds and squirrels isn't it?  We like biscuits and blueberries with a pitcher of milk.  Our friends do too. When the summer is here and the shade is cool on the porch life is perfect.  Saying hello to nature and to you!  Chirp chirp!  Or should I say, "Tweet tweet"?

Sunflowers and Stripes

10' X 11'  watercolor   SOLD

In a gallery high on the 4th floor, brimming with good northern light, sunflowers were aranged in a giant pot.  I remember thinking how the day was so warm and being thankful for friends and family.  I can never get enough of their love, hugs and comradry, can you?  I want to dedicate 1/2 of the proceeds of  this painting to all who are hungry,  in war zones or who are unprotected and vulnerable.   I love you, whoever you are.

Tulips and Apples in April

14.5" x 14.5"   watercolor and gouach  SOLD

My students and I set up a still life with vase, flowers, small bowl with a handle, some apples and a cloth on a table.  I try to show them how to get the composition right by making several thumbnails of various views and then choose the one we each like best.  Next we layer washes, letting each one dry so that the colors stay bright.  We punch the darks as necessary and let the painting tell us where we need to express some freedom of strokes and splatters.  We step back often from our work making sure that some of the colors marry together .

"Poppy Shower"

12" x 12"  oil on deep canvas SOLD

I really love the rain and way sunshine comes through the clouds onto the landscape and touches the leaves and petals of some flowers and letting the clouds mist out the other foliage.  Just the mere fragrance of rain makes me happy.  To me rain is a metaphor for baptism...refreshing our ground, renewing the heart, and giving new strength  to our roots.
