Breakthrough

10.5" x 14"  watercolor   SOLD

There is so much blue in the sky and so much light in the sunlit clouds that I can never decide where to stop and start.  I love our world and sort of imagine the mysteriousness.
This was a late evening shot from my back deck. Now it looks like an early evening shot from somewhere else.
I really enjoyed making the clouds and mountains float and disappear against the sky horizon.

Last Light

30" x 30"    oil   $800.00
In the last light of day, the American eagle, a symbol of freedom, ceremoniously surveys his kingdom, a desert sanctuary.  Generous golden light passionately kisses every edge, transforming the harsh landscape before putting it to bed.  Gooddnight eagle.  Goodnight desert.  Thank you God, for the symphony of color.

“Dusk is just an illusion because the sun is either above the horizon or below it. And that means that day and night are linked in a way that few things are there cannot be one without the other yet they cannot exist at the same time. How would it feel I remember wondering to be always together yet forever apart?”

Five Sheep Running

11" x 6"         watercolor        $45.00

I have been working on combinations of colors for a client and making small paintings to send as a trial from the color combos she sent me.  It will eventually be a full sheet w/c hung to complement her quilt.
I will make a couple more of these loose washes, and I am itching to begin the real painting.

Simply Bright

10" x 8"  watercolor on 140# cold press paper   $100.00

Like the time you laid down in the tall grasses and srtoked your dogs fur and looked up and stared at the beautiful array of stems and blossoms and periwinkle sky.  At once mind blinking and yet soothing.  This sort of unfinishedness delights the eye and could not be improved by adding more.

"Frosty Morning"

6" x 6"  acrylic on deep canvas  $65.00

A warm lemony and raspberry sky remembers a cold and frosty landscape with glee, and valiently tries to bring up a little steam by shining on the ice. This little acrylic is painted in a watercolor way.

Jack the Musician finished

w/c on 140 lb Arches paper  ‎11 x14   7/3/11   SOLD

This painting is now finished. The wonderful thing about painting peoples faces is that while you are painting, if you know the person well, you remember times spent with them and how they grew up, their strengths, their soft spots, their joys and sorrows and it is kind of like prayer. You always desire the best for them in every circumstance and ask God to protect their minds and bodies and relationships. You want them to have a really good and honest and loving joyful life. Every person has value whether you know them or not.
To finish this painting....1.  The face had several more layers of the same colors I used the first time. ie:2. Begin with a clear wash, add lemon yellow, then a thin wash of pyrol red, then cyan blue.  Let dry, then add another layer.  Check it after it is dry so that you can assess whether it needs another layer.   3.  Define the eyes, making sure there is a shadow under thetop  lid.4 Define the mouth, ear, pony tail and hat. making sure not to touch the white paper.5.Paint in the background using burnt umber and raw umber violet, and amethyst for the slats of the porch.  Use as many layers as necessary and dry between layers.  6.  For the sky use cyan and burnt umber wet in wet.

"Field Poppies"

12 x 24  acrylic on unframed canvas  6/11   $155.00

These poppies had been popping up in a nearby grassy

field and I had been wanting to capture their free

flowing wispiness before their graceful petals fell.

It is not easy to make yourself stop painting before you

say too much!
