Lit From the Attic Window

11" x 14"  watercolor  still life    $300.00 matted

In all actuality, I had gone looking for a proper vase up into the attic, with this spray of sunflowers in my hands, thinking, "I should have given these sunflowers a drink first.  After laying them on the wooden table, the light struck them through the window.  "Oh" I thought, "how beautiful"!  And so I progressed through the stages of photographing and marveling at the freshness and the lights against the dark shadows.

Simply Bright

10" x 8"  watercolor on 140# cold press paper   $100.00

Like the time you laid down in the tall grasses and srtoked your dogs fur and looked up and stared at the beautiful array of stems and blossoms and periwinkle sky.  At once mind blinking and yet soothing.  This sort of unfinishedness delights the eye and could not be improved by adding more.

Memories #1

8.5" x 10.5"   watercolor  SOLD

My daughter sent me these tulips during Christmas and they so brightened my day!  I decided that I have enough beautiful photos of arrangements that I must get busy and see if I can paint them all.  Some are from making bouquets at church from my friend Elaines's garden.  We would go pick them on Sat. morning for nearly 8 years.  The pleasure of being with a master gardener in the dewy morning, cutting dozens of tall flowers, and quickly putting them into fresh pails of water is heady. Their fragrances were astonishing!  What a gift!  I savor these amazingly beautiful experiences with a great woman of honor, delight, humor, and care.

"Poppy Shower"

12" x 12"  oil on deep canvas SOLD

I really love the rain and way sunshine comes through the clouds onto the landscape and touches the leaves and petals of some flowers and letting the clouds mist out the other foliage.  Just the mere fragrance of rain makes me happy.  To me rain is a metaphor for baptism...refreshing our ground, renewing the heart, and giving new strength  to our roots.

"Liily Bright" original mixed media

6.5" x 10"  mixed media  $50.00

My garden is not perfect, but I do love to putter in it.  Lillies are kind of like stars in the daytime, making the garden twinkle with laughter.
