"Water of Life #4"

Number 4 in the Water of Life Series was inspired by a trip to Alberta Falls in Colorado. Do you know the feeling of mountain air and the intoxicating fragrance of clean, pure
splashing water? I chose oil paints for this painting so that I could add texture to the scene. My style is rather loose and I love brush strokes to show. It makes the painting more intriguing; more like it was not planned so that your eyes have fun.

"OCCA Howler"

There were 6 of us, including Lori Watry.  We all painted or created something entirely different and I would have shown you, except my camera battery wore out.  We created and successfully raised money for Bancroft Park.  It was a cool, windy day, and we were under the tents together.  Many people came by and admired our work and bid on it in a silent auction.  There were also 40 food vendors with delicious samples.This painting was created using a photo from a Coldwater Creek catalogue.

I have created another one and it is at Arati Gallery if you are interested.  Stop in, take a gander at all the gorgeous work, go to the Chocolate Factory for a goodie, or to La Baguette for French Onion Soup.  Yum.  You will be surprised and pleased with al that Old Colorado City has to offer!

Love in the Winter Fog

On a frozen lake at the Broadmoor near my home, love happened before my eyes. These swan beauties are so passionate, so breathtaking, that they cannot be ignored.  What do we know of true love and lasting romance?  

Peoples and tribes have copied the plumage and the dance of courtship of birds from the beginning.  Humans are unfortunately not given the finery of feathers nor the iridescence of colors that delight. Hang this romantic painting above your mantle or over your bed.  Send it to someone you dearly love.  The subtle gray greens and gentle  apricot fog contrast with the dark plumage.

Big Gulper and Little Yellow Fish

This fishy creation can be seen at Dale St. Cafe in Colorado Spring, CO. After making several banners for donations with cloth and fabric paint, these fabrics just tugged at my heart.  It is not a fine art painting, but rather a curious underwater scene crafted with various prints and colors. shapes and sizes glued onto the canvas side by side.  After the glue dried, I added gold fabric paint with a fine pointed tube attached.  That covered all the edges and further secured the fabric.  It is covered with glass to keep it clean, then and framed and hung.  I was so intent cutting and pasting while making it, and found later it had only taken 2 hours to create sans paint or frame.

Stunning Snowscape

Rising mountains, blanketed boulders and glacier stream melt numb the nose. 

Snow takes prisoner the land just for awhile and then is sucked up to nourish seasonal newness.

Sugar Sherbet Snowfall

Some time ago I had seen the sun shining through the evening clouds with the brushy limbs and the ancient  tree stumps at the bottom of the trunks and always thought I should paint that scene.  When my students wanted to learn snow, I remembered the scene and thought, why paint blue snow?  Let's get creative.  I had so much fun planning this peaceful painting.  I let the spirit of the painting come through, and challenged and delighted myself.  Notice the repetition of shapes and colors.  What would we do without repetition?  Just think of our cells, the grass, bricks and hair.  How about learning?  Repetition is sooo important.

Thinking Caps

Today I don't have any art to post, but I will soon, I promise.  I just had a small thought that you might like.  I am encouraging all of you to paint any thing with a hat.

We must put on or thinking caps because the youngsters already have   Let’s see, instead of” “thinking caps”, we can put on a “Striped Violet Chapeaux.” How’s that?  Yes, we have still got it!  Think colorful and elongated.  Think cerebral and cloudy.  Think animated and silly.  Think pastoral and serene.  Think outlines and space.  Think shrouded and mysterious.  Have fun.  Why be ordinary?  I challenge all of us to blow the world away with the art we fashion.

Maybe you would rather make something with stripes or bubbles.  Just so that it is original.  What could you put a hat onto?  How about a squirrel, a worm, a toaster, an orange, a tree stump.  Make it comical, or serious.  It doesn't matter, as long as you decided to do it yourself!

"Daisy, Darling!"

Sometimes I struggle even though I had a good thumbnail composition.  These darned daisies kept getting in the way...I mean they were supposed to but I had many corrections to make.  Too big, too little, too dark, needs white...aargh!  Needless to say the silly painting is smaller than it was, which is the great thing about w/c paper, but frustrating too.  In the end I like the structure.  Washy looking, spontaneous, (though I can tell you it was not).  All in all, a very good lesson for myself.
