"Water of Life #4"

Number 4 in the Water of Life Series was inspired by a trip to Alberta Falls in Colorado. Do you know the feeling of mountain air and the intoxicating fragrance of clean, pure
splashing water? I chose oil paints for this painting so that I could add texture to the scene. My style is rather loose and I love brush strokes to show. It makes the painting more intriguing; more like it was not planned so that your eyes have fun.

Refreshing, Sparkling Waterfall

I have entered 3 waterfalls into the PPWS international Watermedia today.
They are all from the Rocky Mountains from photos I have taken and converted into paintings .  Yet when I look at the paintings from children's imaginations, I feel stilted and uncreative.  My work comes from seeing something and more or less copying it.  Children's work is freeing and delightful, colorful and imaginative.Their work comes totally from the heart.  Can I attain to that?  I sure hope so.  Hmmm....think like a child, think like a child.

Frozen waterfalls and softly falling snowflakes.  Time and growth ceases.
The woods are listening and groaning, pondering as Mary did the ancient seeds that are to become new life in the spring.  For now we can breathe the nippy frost and be refreshed in the mintiness.

Crash and Flow

Lapping and climbing at the edge of mossy rocks, the water composes its own melody of crash and flow, whoosh and  play, hide and seek and back wash.  Steadily surprising us,we adore the game.

Water spills down the rocks, splashing and splattering freshness and calling noisily. 
The fragrance is scintillating because of it's cleanness.   The sight of it is invigorating.  Water is life giving.  Water can also destroy.  Moving water gets rid of debris and pushes things out of its way.  It comes from the sky, distributes the millions of droplets into ponds, crevasses, oceans, fields, and roots, and then evaporates back into the sky after feeding and nourishing  every living thing in its path. What a delicious mystery.

"Dana Point, Where the Starfish Live" #1

On a recent trip to CA, we were privelged to visit the ocean and be with family.  My granddaughter Krystal and her dad, Tony, climbed this rock to get a glimpse of the starfish living there.  Gotta love the fresh chilly, salty air, rolling waves that chase you, sounds of intense power and enormous forever views where you can collect your thoughts.

Golden winter bushes with blue shadows behind the tree and rocks, muted trees in backlit shadow. The twin towers are also muted at the back of the park  The grayish sky is all this painting needed to be a fading memory.

 pastel 6/2/11, 11 x 14. I have heard that there are no shadows in heaven, and yet an artist depends on them for depth and of course color. I imagine heaven like a butterfly wing or a clean fresh child's face. No need for shadow there! 

Just purity. These rugged rusty rocks are filled with jigs, jags, rough texture and very colorful slubbed shadows. They are weathered and full of secrets of age.

6/5/11  Grapefruit and lemons are colorful, good for you and yummy too.  Gobble them up with gusto, put them in your drinks, your salads, and make sure you have some citrus with breakfast.  My mouth is watering!
