My friend Linda Mertons, who is a fantastic gardener, gave me some bulbs from her stash last year, and this spring these amazing blossoms were among my new sprouts.  Luckily the deer do not like Iris.

Last spring the iris popped up to greet me!  I was sufficiently impressed with their sparkling beauty and ancient form.  How do they do it, I wondered?  Year after year, crowded or not, with roots entangled, they find space.  Nice too, that the deer don't eat them.
